Friday Already

Yeah, time just keeps speeding by. But it's been a very good week (not that they're usually bad). First odd it started off with a Monday that was better than Mondays usually are. It began with a visit with a young man I've watched grow up over the years. He was a good kid that has grown up into an exceptional young man. He just graduated from LSU and immediately landed a very good job as a computer engineer with a young but very successful software company in downtown Dallas. We haven't had a chance to just sit and catch up, so the visit was fantastic. From there I went to my six-month checkup with my urologist. Bloodwork and PSA levels were all very good. So I didn't get fussed at by the doctor this time. By that time it was late afternoon and came home and finished the guitar charts for Sunday quickly and just relaxed. Generally, the rest of the week went smoothly and today felt more like a Saturday, so it's like getting an extra day.

With that in mind, nothing on my mind right now. Here are some Poli-Toons that I've saved up over the last several days. Have a great evening, everyone.

#WalkAway

Among all of the turmoil in our society right now, something wonderful has begun. Maybe in the current socio-political climate, it was bound to happen, but maybe not. There is a movement of “awakening” spreading. This movement is truly all-inclusive; gay, straight, black, white, young, old, and more. It is the #WalkAway Campaign. The official website explains it wonderfully:

The #WalkAway Campaign, founded by former liberal Brandon Straka, is a true grassroots movement. It is a Facebook video campaign movement, dedicated to sharing the stories of people who can no longer accept the current ideology of liberalism and what the Democratic Party has become. Some of us left long ago, while many have recently been “red-pilled”.  Some have wanted to leave for some time but have feared the consequences they might suffer from friends or family if they were to walk away.

The group is here to encourage and support those on the left to walk away from the divisive tenets by allowing people to share their stories, watch the video testimonies, and read the posts of others who have walked away.

The campaign also serves another very important purpose. For far too long, the left has controlled the narrative in this country within the news media, while the “silent majority” on the right have done what they always do – remain silent. The left has been allowed to reinforce the narrative that everybody on the right is a bigot, a racist, a homophobe, a misogynist, etc. The left has become so extreme and hateful that it is now time to fight back! We want people on the right to use their voices and tell the world the truth about whom they are by making videos telling everyone what it means to be a conservative in America and what your values really are. Tell minorities on the left, who have been told their whole lives that they are not welcome on the right because of the bigotry and hatred, that they are welcome. Tell them there is a seat at the table on the right for everybody.

This is a movement of Patriots from all walks of life – men, women, black, brown, white, straight, LGBTQ, religious, and non-believers – who share something very important in common.

These are very brave people to change their stance, usually against their peers and families. Regardless, they are thankful for their decision, having made it on their own.

It’s been a long time since I was on the left. Decades, actually. So I’m not on the “inside’ of the movement. But these individuals are making this decision based on their actual experience and research, not just taking someone’s word for it or following a group. No identity politics here. These testimonies are powerful and moving. I encourage everyone to choose any one of them and watch with an open mind.

Over the past few days, there has been an opposing campaign to discredit #WalkAway as Russian bots or propaganda. That the posts and memes are fabricated. Every one of these I’ve read were readily discredited.

Please help me pass this on. We should always encourage everyone to look at all sides of all issues with as much of an open mind as possible, can come to their own conclusions. People don't have to be enslaved by identity politics.

July 21, 2018 Weekly Summary

In many ways, this week has sped by and dragged along. But I find that is more the norm as I get older. Here are my thoughts on this past week in brief form.

Last Sunday Worship
I was very thankful that after two weeks of battling a nasty virus, I was not only able to attend worship but was able to play and actually sing with the worship team! It was a prayer answered!

Health
Again, I've been recuperating from the virus little by little each day. Slow but steady progress. Arthritis in my right shoulder is better as long as I do the exercises. But it has been giving me a little more grief in my left knee. The heat of the summer really saps my strength and motivation to do most things. I long for the winter weather badly. But all in all, a pretty good week.

Russia
I do not believe:
- Trump believes Putin over our intelligence agencies.
- That Putin is blackmailing Trump.
- That is is bad to open relations with Russia. All of the past presidents believed the same thing. It is on record.
- That Trump is not putting America first.

I do believe:
- That both sides of the political spectrum jumped way to too many conclusions much to fast in their analysis and rhetoric.
- Trumps biggest error, and it was a big one, was in his communicating.
- There is such a thing as Trump Derangement Syndrome, and many of his haters are deeply infected.

Sanctions
This is a tough one. Trump is playing hardball with the goal of a huge win for the US. As a successful businessman, I do trust his process and instincts. Unfortunately, it's going to cost us a little in the short run. But I think it will be worth it in the long run.

Anthem kneeling
Initially, I was in the "make them stand" camp. But then an old friend said to me something like, "If you want mandatory standing for the national anthem or flag, move to North Korea." I think that's a very good point. So here I am now:
- The NFL is a private business. It should be completely up to them what they make mandatory or not. Whatever they decide, let the response of the fans be what they may be.
- The president and all other politicians should stay out of it. The issue should not be politicized.

Missouri boat accident
This just hurts on all fronts. I have been following this but not too closely. This, above all other events, should not be politized. And since there are so many in our country that do not believe in God, I will be praying extra hard for the families of those lost.

I'm sure there are other issues that I'm forgetting about. But this is good enough.

And here are some Poli-Toons I've been saving up.
